KVL likely to be postponed
KOCHI: The Kerala Volleyball League (KVL), the country’s first professional league in the sport which was set for a February 20 take-off in Kozhikode, is likely to be postponed.
“We have six people who are interested to take over the six teams, three are from Kerala and three from outside,” said Jitendra Joshi, the CEO of the Mumbai-based sports management group Sportz Consult which is organising the event along with the Kerala State Volleyball Association, on Monday evening.
“But this being the first time, they have asked for some more time to find their own sponsors. We would like to have the league on February 20 as planned, we have tied up a lot of things but we may have to postpone it by a couple of months,” said Joshi from Mumbai.
Meanwhile, the Kerala State Volleyball Association is almost ready with the list of outstation players for the event.
“We have finalised 22 of the 24 outstation players, we will get the other two ready in a couple of days,” said Nalakath Basheer, the KSVA Secretary. The list will be released in a few days. Nearly 100 players will be seen in action at the event.
The nine-day KVL has actor Mammootty as its brand ambassador.
