F1′s archival photography expo ahead of Indian GP

Indian Grand Prix

Motor racing might be new to the Gandhi-land but the sport in its purest for has been going on since the dawn of motoring in western countries and Indian fans will get an opportunity to relish this adrenaline rush that is Formula 1 on the October 30th. The history of this sport has been documented by many over the years in the form of pictures and videos and these archives have been presented at an exhibition in the national capital as a run-up to the inaugural Indian GP.http://www.sportyindia.com/images/stories/India-Gate-New-Delhi-sportyindia.jpg

“We hope this Grand Prix will be the tipping point for motorsports in India. This unique country celebrates cricket, even football but the scope for motor sports can also be widened,” says Donald Anderson, Country Head, Shell Lubricants, which co hosted the event with automotive company Ferrari.

The photography exhibition consists of rare archival photos of Formula One racing dating back to 1957. This is aimed to create more local interest in the sport and to educate more and more people who have been quite disconnected from motor racing. F1 fans now have the opportunity to relive the greatest moments the sport has seen over the years.  The collection also includes images  from the era F1 greats like of Juan Manuel Fangio and Mike Hawthorn

Although, the sport is been taken seriously by some, majority of the population still does not have access to the infrastructure needed for motor racing. Formula 1 could change the picture though.  India now has a state-of-the-art race track which will help groom local talent and we could see more and more youngsters getting into professional racing over the coming years.
