Local lad Karthik Krishna registered his first victory of the season by winning the second race after leading from start to finish in the third round of Formula LGB Swift category at the JK Tyre National Racing Championship at the MMSC track on Sunday. The win moved Krishna to second in the championship with 80 points. R Deepak still tops the standings with 110 points. Ameya Walawalkar, who won the first race on Saturday, failed to finish on Sunday and dropped to third with 75 points.
Walawalkar and S Narendran were fighting for the second spot for majority of the race before the former broke his axel on the start-finish stretch, thus ending his race. Their battle for more than six laps helped Krishna extend his lead.
It was a clean sweep for team TVS Girling with Krishna topping the podium, Narendran coming in second and Sandeep Kumar finishing third to take his first podium of the season.
“It is a fantastic feeling to win my first race. I have no words to express my delight but a 1-2-3 for TVS Girling makes it so much more special,” Krishna said, referring to Sandeep’s dramatic elevation to third place. It was a commendable performance by Sandeep considering he had started the final lap in the fifth place on a day when overnight rain added to the drivers’ challenge on the track, especially in the morning.
In the Polo R Cup, Vishnu Prasad continued to lead the championship with 170 points. While he won the first race, he was forced to retire from the second. Goa’s Avdumber Hede won the second race to move behind Vishnu with 151 points. Oshan Kothadiya is third having garnered 146 points.
