Coimbatore: Team Mohites Racing’s Ameya Walavalkar of Mumbai recorded a lucky win in the senior class in the fourth round of the JK Tyre Rotax Indian National karting championship at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam, near here, on Sunday.
Ameya was locked in an intense battle with teammate Chittesh Mandody right through the race. The former used his rich experience to thwart every effort of the latter in getting past him. But, at the end, it was Chittesh who had the last laugh as he sneaked past Ameya.
However, Chittesh’s joy was short-lived as the stewards penalised him for slowing down intentionally and for sudden braking. It came as a huge jolt for the young racer from Kolhapur as it pushed him nine places down the order and elevated Ameya to the top spot.
Chennai’s Tarun Reddy registered his third win in the Micro Max category. It was a three-way tussle for the top spot but Tarun just about managed to nose ahead of Kolhapur’s Dhruv Mohite.
The results: Seniors (19 laps): 1. Ameya Walavalkar 12:26:798; 2. Samyak Shah 12:27:145; 3. Chirag Malhotra. Juniors (17 laps): 1. Parth Ghorpade 11:05:754; 2. Nikhil P. Kashyap 11:16:682; 3.
