KOLKATA: Indian senior and sub-junior National champion Deepika Kumari continued her fine run by entering the final of the cadet recurve women’s event of the 11th Youth World archery championship at Ogden (Utah) in the U.S. on Thursday.
India also placed itself in line for four bronze medals in the individual and team events of cadet recurve men, team events of compound men and women.
Having made it to the quarterfinals, fourth-seeded Deepika eliminated fifth-seeded Miranda Leek of the U.S. 115-104, before beating top-seeded Jeon Hun Young of Korea 112-108. Deepika will now meet 10th-seeded Sayana Tsyrempilova of Russia in the final.
Jeon was in the lead after the first end against Deepika, 27-25. However, after a weak performance in the second end she trailed 54-55, 80-84, to finally lose the match 108-112.
A gutsy Sanjay Boro placed himself for a bronze medal in the cadet recurve men. The seventh-seeded Indian easily beat 18th-ranked Osman Eskici of Turkey 112-101 in the quarterfinals and faced third-seeded Min Taehong of Korea in the semifinals. The Korean needed a World-record equalling 117 to put away Boro who replied with 106. Boro will challenge 29th-ranked Hector Antonio Smith of Mexico for the bronze medal.
The fourth-seeded Indian cadet men’s team of Boro, Mangal Ho and Parashan Nath will play sixth-seeded Italy in the bronze medal play-off after losing to top-seeded Korea 209-224 in the semifinals. Earlier, India had beaten Finland (215-208) in the pre-quarterfinals and 12th-ranked Mexico (213-202) in the quarterfinals.
The sixth-seeded cadet men’s team of Sudhakar Kumar Paswan, Ritul Chatterjee and Abhyudaya Srinet will take on top-seeded U.S.A.bikes4sale.in_fz150-7
Earlier, India had beaten the Russian Federation 223-221 in the quarterfinals. India, however, narrowly lost to Mexico by one point — 226-227 — in the semifinals.
The fourth-seeded cadet compound women’s team consisting of sub-junior National champion Sarikonda Jayalakshmi, Prerna Bhagat and Nilam Kumari will play the third-seeded Russian Federation for the bronze medal. India defeated Australia 217-215 in the quarterfinals but top-seeded U.S.A did not give India a chance with a World record score of 230 against India’s 219 in the last four stage.
