WARANGAL: Sukhdev Singh (boys under-18) and Seema Jhakhar (girls under-20), both of Haryana, overhauled the national hammer throw records, heaving the chained orb to 70.35 and 51.91 metres respectively in the Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy memorial junior National athletics championships at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Thursday. Sukhdev rewrote Chandroday Singh’s milestone (67.09m) and Seema eclipsed Archana Bara’s (49.55m).Akash B. Rao of Karnataka and Srabani Nanda emerged the fastest boy and girl of the meet respectively, timing 11.08 and 12.11 seconds respectively in 100m sprints in the under-20 category.

Kerala’s Abdu Samad K.M. snipped off over 0.30 seconds from B. Dinesh’s 11.91 seconds, clocking 11.59 in the under-14 boys’ 100m, where he ran a blistering race in low light and on a sawdust-scarred clay track, limping back to normalcy after heavy rains, a day before.
