The cricket bat of Maharaja Ranjitsinhji - the legendary cricketer after whom India's famous domestic first-class cricket championship, the Ranji Trophy, is named - has been stolen.cricket

The bat was just one among priceless antiques that have gone missing from the Jam Bungalow Palace in Jamnagar. The total value of the stolen articles is estimated to be Rs 4 to 5 crore. The exact date of the theft is unclear as the police complaint indicates that the valuable articles could have been stolen over the past month and a half.

The theft was discovered on Monday by the security personnel of the Jam Bungalow Palace - once the residence of the erstwhile Jamnagar royal family - who informed the police about the missing articles. Police said most of the things stolen by the thieves had belonged to Ranjitsinhji.

The robbers broke into the palace through the glass windows and carefully took away things, police added.
