About The Event
The 5th Commonwealth Boxing Championships will be held at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi from March 12th – 17th, 2010. Championship will see approx 140 boxers and 130 bouts from 17 Countries All major commonwealth boxing nations will participate in the commonwealth boxing championships at Delhi.
The participants for the commonwealth championships in March 2010 are England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Kenya, Samoa, Singapore, Canada (TBC) and India.
Medalists at this Championships are likely to be medal winners again at Commonwealth Games 2010 at the same venue ie. Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi in October 2010. Large number of boxers in the top 20 World rankings are participating.
Indian boxing heroes such as Vijender Singh, Akhil Kumar, Dinesh Kumar, Nanao Singh, Suranjay Singh etc will be seen in action in front of the home crowd. India had won 5 medals (1 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze) in 2006 Commonwealth Games at Mel Bourne.
Common Wealth Boxing Championship is being supported by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Organizing Committee of Commonwealth Games and Sports Authority of India.

Talkatora Indoor Stadium:
A sports stadium that allows a lot more. Located at the heart of Delhi, this stadium is used for sports, as well as stages musical concerts, quiz contests and seminars. The boxing events for the Commonwealth Games in 2010 will be held in this stadium. It is therefore being renovated to meet international standards. Besides a boxing ring Talkatora will have a separate warm-up area and increased seating arrangements. Underground parking is also being arranged for.
