Rally of Coimbatore : 22-24 July 2011
Coimbatore, 22 July 2011: The top drivers in the country are raring to go as the rally bandwagon has descended on the City for the Rally of Coimbatore to be organised by Coimbatore Auto Sports Club. The third leg of the Speed FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship 2011 will be held at the unique windmill farms, near Kethanur, on Saturday. The spectator-friendly Super Special Stage will be held on Sunday at 1pm.
Promoted by IMG Sports and Pro-Sports Promotion, the Speed FMSCI INRC is held under the aegis of The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, the FIA-recognised body for governing motorsports in India.
Team MRF’s Speedmaster Gaurav Gill (co-driver Musa Sherif), who missed a podium in Chennai is raring to go and the young teammate Amittrajit Ghosh (Ashwin Naik), who made it a family double in the second round, with sister Somonnita Ghosh, navigating Karna Kadur, to a victory in 2000N, are as keen to prove that the victory in South India Rally at Chennai is not a fluke. MRF will be the team to watch as competition increases between the 4 teammates and it would be interesting to watch if Leela-tuned Arjun Aroor Rao's Cedia can make a dent into the Red territory. Arjun Rao Aroor, who drove for MRF, till last season, is confident of springing a surprise with Satish Rajagopal as co-driver, after a disappointing Chennai leg. ``The stages are looking good. From the twisty, slow turns of last year to open, wide and free-flowing corners today, we have a fast rally and I am happy with the stages,’’ said Gill, who just returned from the APRC in New Zealand. ``We have harnessed the power of the car and we would like to keep up the tempo,’’ said Karna Kadur who would be driving a Misubishi Cedia along with the only lady navigator Somonnita Ghosh. The duo made a triumphant comeback in Chennai for the second round after a year’s hiatus following a spectacular crash in Nashik in 2009.
Vignesh Devarajan, who won the 1600 cc class in the South India Rally with Anoop Kumar as navigator, will have Jeevarathinam as co-driver as Anoop is back with Phalguna Urs, who is driving a Honda V-tech 1.5 in the 1600 cc class. Hrishikesh Thackersey who won the 1400 cc Star Cup class in the last leg, has also a new navigator in Ninad while Gypsy class will be spearheaded by veteran Bangalorean Sanjay Agarwal and co-driver Shiva Prakash E.
The rally starts from Jenney’s Club on Saturday morning at 7 and proceeds to Palladam and Kethanur special stages which will be closed for traffic during the rally. The 10 Special Stages prepared by N Jayapal (Tulip by Chandrasekaran) to be run in and around Kethanur Wind Mill Farms will total to a rally distance of almost 115 kms. The LMW Special Stage is 11.25 kms while Premier is 14.74 kms and Textool is 11.80 kms. These three SS will be run 3 times each in the same direction. Two Special Stages will be run on Sunday morning before the rally moves to the city for the Super Special Stage (SSS).
``For safety the State-run 108 ambulances are in place with GKNM Hospitals supporting with medical personnel and the running of the event will be closely monitored by Ham Radio with the support of Coimbatore Amateur Radio Club and Kodaikanal Amateur Radio Society. Shelters for the spectators are being provided to create a safe and vantage point for the fans,’’ said Prithviraj of CASC. Ramkumar is the Clerk of the Course (CoC). Along with Naren Kumar, his championship winning driver last year, Ram has prepared and distributed the pace notes to guide all the up and coming drivers. ``Alok Mishra from Mumbai said: for new comers like us it is a really blessing as we can learn a lot from it,’’ said Alok Mishra as his navigator Rohit nodded in unision.

Description
SDAT Coimbatore Nehru Stadium

Nehru Stadium, the pride of the South, The synthetic is not a pre-fabricated version. "It's full polyurethane; quite expensive and the latest.
The big advantage is that it helps in high-quality performances. The surface is also injury-safe as it takes less strain. In
The stadium was constructed for football; there are so many things necessary for a stadium. The SDATN must find a way to provide all these. Even a mega electronic display board will do a world of good. If cricket is popular, it is because of its various strategies. For instance, every move on the field is captured electronically. The same can be done for athletics and it can be made popular.
The expert's views on the infrastructural needs may sound good, but M. Abdul Jabbar, Stadium Engineer, had proposed similar things in the 1970s. A two-tier accommodation was initially planned, with the first providing space for 30,000 spectators and the second, with escalator facilities, to accommodate an additional 15,000 people.
Provisions were also made for dressing rooms, conference hall, cloakrooms, bath facilities for players and athletes, a mini hospital and many more. A tunnel was even planned from the main entrance to take the athletes to the stadium without disturbing the track events. Also, for the construction of indoor games hall, swimming pool, ticket booths, electronic scoreboard, canteen room, public telephone booth and press and telex-printer service rooms. But nothing came up because only commercial establishments made the best use of the stadium's outer ring.
