First it was the 9.69 in 100 m and now it is the 19.30 in 200 m…
Beating his own world records in both the events by 0.11 seconds is not a mean achievement, considering the strength of the field. Will he round it off with the cherry on the top by winning gold in the sprint relay as well, just like he did in the 2008 Olympics?
How many more records will be broken by Usain Bolt in the days to come?
First was the triple treat to the fans in the 2008 Olympics, where he was the undisputed champion of the event (though a few may disagree with me, considering the feat of Michael Phelps). And now the same guy comes back after an injury lay off and shatters his own world records in both the sprints. Its sheer vintage stuff. He is very much on the way to become one of the greatest to be born on the Jamaican soil along with the musician, Bob Marley.
And how does this tiny island of 11000 km2 keeps on producing world class sportsmen?
Have a look at the world class sprinters born in Jamaica in Linford Christie, Merlene Ottey, Donovan bailey and Asafa powell. All are great sprinters who have dominated the sprints at one point of time or the other. And a Jamaican sportsman having the world at its feet is not happening for the first time either; Courtney Walsh had held the world record for the maximum test wickets for close to 5 years.
Is he the greatest?
Now, where does Bolt go from here? Will he continue to dominate the world athletics as he had done in the recent past or will he fade away? Hopefully there is no doping controversy coming up in the next few days. As the saying goes, “The most difficult part in sportsman’s life is not reaching the top, but staying on top”. By the time, I finish this blog; he would be in his tracks practicing for the sprints relay. Again, “genius is what genius does”. The question on the lips of every sports follower now is “Will he become the Sergei Bubka of the sprints?”
May be or may be not, he has already done enough to be on the list of the greatest sprinters of all time.
Take a bow, Mr.Usain “Thunder” Bolt…
