TITANIUM SCAM - THE REAL STORY


“POWER CORRUPTS AND ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY’’ When the Judiciary,
Legislature and Executive are involved in a corruption or if they condone corruption,
what becomes the plight of common man? If the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau,
Central Vigilance Commission and CBI fail to do their duty honestly, how can justice
prevail in our country or how to bring the culprits to justice? Travancore Titanium
Products Limited, Trivandrum was incorporated in 1946 and commenced commercial
production in the year 1951. TTPL has been making sustained profit over half a
century and had been giving employment to over 1,500 persons. The Pollution Control
Act came into force in 1974. However, the non pollution issues of Travancore Titanium
remain unresolved even after the passage of 35 years. So far the company has wasted
over Rs.100 crores for a most unviable and unwanted pollution control project which
was solely aimed at corruption. The most perplexing aspect of the rampant corruption
in our country is that a village officer taking a bribe of a meager Rs.100 is given up
to eight years of rigorous imprisonment by the Court whereas those who make off with
Rs.100 crore escape scot-free as the art of looting public money is perfected through
cunning ways by the bureaucrats and technocrats. This enquiry report of one of the
biggest corruption scams in the history of Kerala will surely create awareness among
the people - “ how vested interests, ignorance, inefficiency, lack of integrity and
courage of Politicians, Trade Union leaders, Bureaucrats, Technocrats, Judges and
lawyers when work in tandem can lead to the destruction of Public Sector Units of our
Country.” The pertinent question is why should honest people take up the fight against
corruption?
